To be honest I'm not really comfortable calling GSC's male protagonist "Ethan" considering the name didn't come about until the remakes and the design, while technically the same, looks pretty different and is in a modern style instead. I consider the two basically separate characters. It's sort of a gray area I think. If you look at it from a different viewpoint you might think "they're obviously one and the same dumbass"
