It wouldn't be at disadvantage against Brock's pokemon, it woudn't have massive advantage against Misty's so it refusing to fight her would mean nothing, and there would be no rivalry with Surge's electric pokemon. Also it would probably win most of its early fights with pure luck using metronome.
Seems anime would need to be reworked into something completely different than the one we know.
