>>43485872Well, saying i LIKE Gen 6 is not exactly accurate. It sucked in a lot of ways, but the aspects where it performed exceptionally badly were in areas that the franchise has never been good in.
Shitty, underbaked story? Yup, among the worst. They had all this possible interesting lore with the Great War and AZ and didn't do shit with it, but Pokemon games have always had shitty stories, so i could easily shrugged it off.
Shitty characters? Check. How can you have an entire group of friends an have all of them be completely unlikable? But once again, i knew this would happen because Pokemon games have always had notoriously awful writing and characterization.
Bad Post-game? Kinda, i guess. Not Top 3 for sure, but people would be praising it if it had done B/W's cheap trick of withholding half the map from you until you finish the game, which in turn negatively impacts the main game. Even then it's clearly not as good as Gen IV, V and arguably Gen III's Post-game.
Even after all of this, the reason i enjoy it more than most of the board is that it's strong in most of the places where it matters.
Presentation was better than i expected from GF's first 3D incursion. Instead of just replicating the DS games 1:1 but this time with 3D models, they went a bit further than i expected and trying out little details that flesh out the experience. I certainly did not expect a feature like Amie to be added in their first 3D game, but assumed that would be relegated to a full console release. That along with small things like rideable overworld pokemon and more overall interactivity was a pleasant surprise.
Megas were cringey, but i like how they actually refreshed the already stale gameplay of the series and made lots of cool unused Pokemon relevant. My 2nd favorite meta since DPPt.
Online experience was as its peak. PSS was godlike and the most fun i've had in Mainline Pokemon.
And my 3rd fave dex. Good ratio of great mons. I still think its a 6.5/10 game, tho.
