I'm hopeful we get more details from the gigaleak about SwSh's pre-production. Nintendo is really hit or miss about releasing development details, and Masuda is so uneven between lying to save face, and being overly blunt about things that you don't even know when to believe him, and when to call him a lying sack of shit.
I also swear there's an Interview where Masuda talked about how at some point they toyed with changing the way battle are presented and attempted more detailed textures on the models but that they felt it looked awkward and so they went back to something more traditional but I can't find it. He does so many Interviews it's always hard to find specific ones. I want to say it was around the same time Incineroar was revealed for Smash. And then during LGPE's pre-release he also made that comment about how he was worried that parents would find the game too scary for their younger kids if they changed things too much which I think paints a bit of a picture in regards to SwSh's early development.
