>>46518726>they aren't as marketable as the other starters. Let's pretend for a second that Game Freak didn't start with Kanto. What actually makes the Kanto starters so great, because they all have some pretty glaring flaws for supposed mascots. ( I actually like the Kanto starter, I'm just stick of them being shoved on our faces when other starters are left to die in hot cars)
Charizard is my mom's generic fat dragon and its fire barely had anything to do with the rest of its design (it was even stated in an interview that the flame was tacked on last minute when they wanted to come up with types).
Blastoise loses its hair for no reason and TPC can't even decide what the fuck its proportions are (Pic-related)
Venusaur isn't exactly ugly, but if it were to enter a beauty contest with other mascots, it would be lucky to get a participation trophy.
I'm not going to pretending that Johto starter are perfect. Even as someone who started with Johto I fully agree with the common criticism about the final stages being somewhat bland. I think Game Freak should create a mechanic where Pokemon can get super-powered alternate forms (something like Megas from the Digimon series).Giving the Johto starters forms like this could jazz up their designs and make them stronger in battle. That would make them more popular among both the general population and competitive players. Surely Game Freak wouldn't waste this mechanic on Pokemon that are already worshipped like gods....
