Something that often bothers me in stories with psychic connections is how it always seems to become an equally shared effort between the psychic and non-psychic. Clearly all the effort in developing and maintaining this connection must be on the side of the one with the actual power, yet it's often the non-psychic protagonist who is pushing the boundaries and 'innovating' with it. It'd be like me with just my phone and service plan improving my carrier's service remotely and without any real understanding of it.
I realize this is sort of petty and varies wildly from case to case with how vague and hand-waivey the rules tend to be around this stuff, but it just annoys me. It's like the author is trying to be sneaky about giving their protagonist some psychic-lite power.
