I don't really see things like proper animations when using move types or actions like fainting as inherently incompatible with good pixel art, which is why I made the post to begin with to compare 2D and 3D.
You say that their artists are better at 2D than 3D, but what supports that? Clearly the models have more animations put into them that better highlight how a Pokemon would actually use their moves and react to effects / express emotion. Objectively speaking, all of the animations combined have shown more personality than anything that came before. Sure, some of the idle posing may be boring, but it's not as if their poses can be adjusted or the camera could be utilized to present more dynamic battles. They were clearly more comfortable utilizing 3D models for their overworld design in Gens 4 and 5, so it's not like they ever showed the talent capable of producing quality assets in that respect.
