We get to the Tower of Fate, and not-Mmmmchu is hanging around there. We talk to him, and he tells us how he knows Torchic and Chikorita -- he was in their Rescue Team in the past and apparently deleted their memories so they didn't know. To be fair it's actually not that improbable because it DOES explain why their pre-existing Rescue Base is shaped like a Pikachu, which was one of the first things I noticed being weird about this game and that he brings up.
They turn him down immediately on his request to rejoin them, and I guess nothing's happening regarding him still.
