Especially when he got wind of the atomic bombs about to be dropped, he advanced the timetables tremendously - hence why Manchukuo was occupied, and eventually given to the PRC instead of being handed to the ROC like it was supposed to be. And why we have the Korea situation to this very day - the Soviet supply lines exhausted around the 38th parallel, and then we landed at Inchon. He was hoping to capture part of mainland Japan, Hokkaido at the very least before the surrender. We would have then had a similar North/South thing going on that Korea has.
