I did poison and which worked out really well - Easy to get a few mons early and still catch new ones occasionally. I faced the Elite 4 with a team consisting of Crobat, Haunter, Tentacruel, Vileplume, Nidoking and Arbok. After the E4 I let myself replace two, so pic related was my final team.
