The anime just has to revert Serena back to her old personality from XY 001/002 and make her dynamic with Ash more like Misty/Dawn The anime can use the kiss as excuse for Serena not being submissive around Ash anymore and use Lisia's influence on her to make her more genki. At least she and Ash having similar dynamic as Lan and Maylu from Megaman should be enough.
