I love rivals that have their own motivation beyond 1) you as the protagonist 2) defeating the league. Bianca and Cheren's character arcs were great, Hugh is the best rendition of a friendly rival we've gotten imo.

Both asshole rivals are pretty well done, I really enjoyed Barry as a character and his development as a rival.

Wonky writing but conceptually good and have some shining moments. I feel like Hop would be much more liked if the game didn't make him cut in with the crit / super effective dialogue that pisses everyone off so much.

I just felt bad thrashing Kalos / Hoenn rivals. I don't understand the appeal of Marnie, she just felt so bland and unnessesary compared to Bede and Hop.
