Feature bloat erodes gameplay in the same way that splitting a nerve into many parts will dilute blood flow to important areas and is not suitable for major arteries, so feature bloat is not suitable for making a good game.

!!!- All NPCs that give gameplay tips. This is an outdated feature w/ electronic manuals. Write better manuals and better NPC dialog. Sun and Moon made steps in the right direction.
!!- Mega evolutions. There is no reason to have mega evolution with Z-moves. Z-moves are the better feature because they are attack based. Sun and Moon made steps in the right direction.
- All held items except for species specific buff items. Held items give an unfair advantage to players in-game. Trade items could be retconned to work like mega-stones.
- Dark, Fairy and Ice types. Outdated. Buffs should be move-based instead of type-based and given to weaker types like bug or grass. Sun and Moon made steps in the right direction in not making any good dark or ice types, but fairy should've been dropped after gen 6. Instead we will have to live with GF's mistake here for countless generations to come, just like with dark and ice type.
- Special defense. Outdated, sloppy feature with abilities allowing specific type negation. There is no such thing as special defense that wouldn't also be special attack, unless you are religious which you are not if you play Pokemon in the first place.
- Gender. Gender is quickly becoming an outdated concept in the real world. There was never any reason to implement it anyway.

- Japanese based regions. If I wanted to take a vacation I would play a Disney video game.
- Exclusive moves that made each species of Pokemon interesting to train and use instead of cookie cutter role-fillers.
- Sprites. 3D is soulless garbage. If I wanted to see 3D animation I would gawk at the state of cartoons today.
- Speed as a determinator of crit ratio. As of now speed is a useless, boring, all-or-nothing stat.
