The reason it is hated is because Platinum took so many broken or underdeveloped aspects of DP and corrected them. Platinum is one of the highest-regarded games of the franchise. To blatantly ignore almost everything it did and instead using the DP as your base code is a sad mistake.
Also, aside from that.... the glitches (needed a patch later), the music (also needed a patch), no Battle Facilities beyond the Tower, chibi style mixed bag (especially for big cutscenes), no new Pokemon (G5-G8 cut is fine if you have to, but not implementing Sylveon is lazy)...
I could keep going, but I think the most atrocious part of them is that the difference between Diamond and Pearl is a single code line that switches version. The cartridges are entirely the same, just a single editable segment to pick which. $60 for both, the truest ripoff to date.
