The only recent changing in the guard that springs to mind is Shedinja being ousted by Cofagrigus. I still like Shedinja a whole lot, he's got a great design and concept, he's just not a hell of a lot of fun to play with at times. Cofagrigus is a fun design as well, and is great to use in game and competitively (I play Trick Room teams a lot).
