>>45060548>They provide certain moves a niche that wouldn't exist otherwise and coexist alongside types to provide unique tools (ie. Substitute evasion) And you could decouple it from Sound as an attribute while making it a secondary affect, so moves like Hypervoice, Bug Buzz, and Boomburst can still go through substitute. Or, you could switch out the "sound" move effect for a "wave" move effect, which would function exactly the same.
>Comparatively speaking, "Sound Type" is far less creative than the Sound attributeIt's the opposite. Sound as a type is much more creative because you have to come up with reasons for it to have its strengths and weaknesses as opposed to it being designated to a tertiary effect that works as a worse version of Infiltrator.
>and is inherently more limiting since more often than not you have to strip Pokemon of their given types to make it workThat's not true. Fairy and Steel also "stripped Pokemon of their given types", but it's for the better. Magneton as an Electric/Steel is much better than Magneton as a pure Electric type, and tons of Fairy types got retconned. It's not limiting in the slightest.
>(something that was never an issue with Fairy type)Because Fairy was OP and every Pokemon benefitted from becoming Fairy, except for maybe Granbull since it lost STAB Return for Play Rough, but even then it's still way better defensively because offensive Poison/Steel doesn't exist.
