I liked challenges, but also sympathized with the little fire lizard. Even my younger brother, with his love for turtles, chose the water starter, while my girlfriend at the time went with the "cuddly" grass type, because it was tough in the anime. I don't think I ever met anybody in my youth who picked Charmander until FireRed came out...
