Quality makes emotional attachment which makes a long-time consumer, as you can see with genwunners and normalfag pokemon fans. They liked the first time product and they liked every one after that for a long enough time that they didn't notice the eventual decline in quality. Eventually the games reached the unacceptable point it's been at since gen 6 but because the fans were "gotten while they were young" they still buy it. It's not unlike the practice McDonald's used by being kid friendly to grab future long-time customers.
Continuing anti-consumer practices might work, especially on whales and the dumbest of normals but to keep the attention span of the creatures and the little gremlins they call their kids quality and consumer-friendly practices are needed. Sure, it can make money but not good will and respect. Just look at EA.
