Pokemon is very popular in the Latin American landscape, mostly because of the anime (it came about 2000 here) as only rich kids or people from Santiago had Game Boys. I've seen Chile, Peru and Mexico are big fans, and I have no doubt Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay are as well.
Now that Pokemon Go fever came, pretty much everyone stuck to it.
Mainline games were never that popular, only the anime and Pokemon Go were.
