The OG GBA's didn't have a backlight. The AGS-001 SP's are front-lit while the AGS-101's are backlit and considered the best. Don't bother looking for a 101 unless you already have one, they're going for around $200 right now and new ISP screens are better than that of the 101. Hope your not afraid of modding.

Yes, in spite of seething ecelebs and their zoomer fanbase, Gen 2 holds up well. Johto introduced a ton of shit that became staple features in the franchise and it's a big step up over Gen 1. The level curve and distribution aren't nearly as problematic as it's made out to be.
