Sure they could just do the X and Y Megas, not ORAS, but even then Blazikenite was in X and Y anyways.
Plus shiny Rayquaza's in the anime and knows Dragon Ascent. I feel like its Mega will appear at some point.
And with shiny Zygarde appearing, I feel the anime's going to find a way to loop them all together.
I can see the Hoenn starters and their Mega stones being post-game gifts or quests in PLZA. Same with Origin Legends.

Plus, Empoleon in PLZA would likely be a regional form to stand out from normal Empoleon, so its not like you'd be using the same one.
Same reason why I believe Serperior would still be the Grass starter even if we did end up with Gen 5 remakes this Winter.
Because standard Serperior would still stand out from normal Serperior. Not using the same Serperior twice in a row.
And they could actually pull it off because PLZA is Kalos, not Unova. Unlike Hisui which was just ancient Sinnoh.
I think the starters will either be:
Regional or Mega Serperior, Cinderace, Empoleon
Regional or Mega Serperior, Incineroar, Feraligatr (If this happens, we're getting a 3rd Legends game with Meganium, Emboar, and Primarina)
Mega Chesnaught, Delphox, Greninja (I think Megas for them are happening regardless, but its been so long since they were starters we could see them again)
