He's not "relatable" in the way that a lot of video game antagonists try to be either, with contrived, edgy sob-story origins or anything like that either. Certainly he's a criminal who resorts to petty theft, but he's not "evil" and especially isn't estranged from his humanity or cartoonish like a lot of other antagonists. He even seems to really care about his team and look out for them, same as he must have with his Wimpod.
Also has great taste in Pokemon.
