What? Basic attack with Scratch+Ember+Metal Claw destroys almost everything(by the time it doesn't, the player character can almost oneshot bosses). Smokescreen completely nullifies any opponent for about 3 turns, including bosses. On top of that, Fire is great typing for almost the whole game. Not useful for postgame(Charizard is dicks), but it's best to go solo postgame anyway. Why wouldn't you pick Charmander?
