>>47616797Decent list. Going through this I realize that a lot of Gen 1 and Gen 5 Pokemon are only similar in the loosest of senses and don't even apply exclusively to Gen 5, how many regions have a 3 stage bug? Is Houndour a fucking Growleith clone because its a 2 stage fire dog? Pokemon like Tentacool and Frillish are so vastly apart in design, inspiration and execution that saying one is a clone of the other because they're jellyfish is about as uneducated as saying Pyra in Smash is a Roy clone because they both have fire swords.
Anyway, overall the Gen 5 Pokemon have a lot more thought put into their designs. I like Machamp more than I like Conkeldurr, but the Machamp line as a whole is really uninteresting and honestly Machop and Machoke could get axed and I feel like hardly anyone would care, but the Timburr line has an ongoing theme of wood to iron to concrete on top of a secondary clown thing going on too. It's just more interesting and the whole line feels like it has a place versus going from muscle > more muscle > even MORE muscle and 4 arms.
Same deal with lines like the Sewaddle, Venipede and Denio lines, they all have a nice little story to tell and very clear progression on more levels than "it got bigger and stronger". I don't know if I'm articulating it right, its not as if I'm ragging on the effective simplicity of Gen 1, but Gen 5 has a really nice flavor
