Despite XY being easy, I had trouble with the rival most of the time and the fifth gym.
Every time she wanted to fight I had an under leveled team and my order was bad. It doesn't help most my Pokemon didn't have strong moves. I also didn't let the game hold my hand, meaning I didn't use the EXP share.
Had the same problem with the 5th gym leader. I had an under leveled team. I had to configure some strategy to beat him, which usually involves having some of my Pokemon faint.
I also had trouble with the Black2 eight gym leader just now.
