It's 2015, and Gamefreak is planning on closing out Gen 6 and celebrate the anniversary of the Franchise with Pokemon Red 2 and Green 2. And yes, unfortunately, we're returning to Kanto. However, they're letting you design it, and they're giving you free reign to alter Kanto anyway you wish, so long as the locations stay the same (you can make Cinnibar a huge mountain to explore, but you can't move it around the map.). You aren't bound to gen 1 limitations and trying to make a faithful remake. They're also letting you decide the storyline.
Here's the stipulations:
*You cannot add cities or routes to the main Kanto area. You can add places outside the map like the Sevii Islands
*Johto is off the table, Mt. Silver is available since it's a Kanto location. Other regions are also unavailable.
*You must add Pokemon from the last 5 gens, not just Gen 1, and find a proper, fitting location for them
*Storyline must take place at least 3 years after Gen III (which we'll consider canon telling of the Red/Green events)
*you don't have to start off in Pallet town, however the player must be a new character, not Red or any previous character
*Storyline must include at least one legendary native to Kanto and/or the Johto roaming trio (as they were in FR/LG)
Have at it.
