Part of what makes 3 so good is that Ash isn't being a dickweed like usual and is just trying to rescue his mom, and the antagonists were actually somewhat sympathetic and not one-dimensional gymnast chicks. The battles in 3 are better than the ones in Heroes by far, more memorable and not over in 1 minute.
The only good things about Heroes was Latias and the setting.
