>>47057022It makes a LOT of sense. GF Pokemon games are beautified game boy games that don't require exceptional manpower to make- Brilliant/Shining are just are stripping away all pretense. Meanwhile Game Freak finally gets to do something new with the IP they are chained to, that both long timers and newcomers can appreciate. Any Game Freak jank or comparisons to other open-world games are irrelevant because the Switch is a successful walled garden and Pokemon outsells the rest of the industry before breakfast every 2~3 years.
We can rightly argue that the games are cheap relative to what Pokemon takes in and the Sinnoh remakes are a lost opportunity, lest anyone think I shill, but the former has always been the case and the latter speaks... volumes.
>>47057161If you cede that the loss of backwards compatibility on the most recent Nintendo hardware is a valid creative reason for remakes then Brilliant/Shining are just following ORAS's lead. The Switch has been Nintendo's sole concern for most of 4 years and outsold every machine they have every released bar the DS, Wii, and Game Boy (has it beaten the Game Boy?), so both the passage of time and the sales figures tell Nintendo to act as if they have a legion of entirely new players. And as OP points out not everyone who buys video games does so with such a clear sense of continuity as Pokemon players that likely transfer from one game to the next. Nintendo as whole is always drawing back people who liked them in the past but have not played their games in years to their newest hardware.
