Keep in mind this is the same time frame leading up to the JAPANESE release as opposed to the worldwide release of Shit and Shite and it was still more consistently on people's minds worldwide in that time frame with a consistent upward trend the closer it got to release.
Shit and Shite spikes at trailers and is basically meaningless the rest of the time to everyone. Gen 7 wasn't much better either. No game prior to Gen 7 had as little fucks given.
And you know why? They're oversaturating their own market. Unlike other trends, no one else needs to release games to drive people away from the trend as a whole because Game Freak is fucking it all up themselves.
The reason Nintendo games tend to explode out of the gate (even when they're on a shitty selling system like the original SMM) is because they don't release the same shit yearly.
They have side series games releasing consistently and even different main series and take their time with the very same-y big main games. In comparison, the way TPC and Game Freak are running this is completely opposite and into the ground.
Nintendo, as per usual, is playing the long game. Holy fuck are they stupid a lot of the time but in every way they can always be shown to understand the business side of shit as it relates to their IPs. If they were vampires, Nintendo would have a fleet of humans with access to gyms and all the best blood making food etc. possible keeping them in good shape while TPC and Game Freak are sitting on the already failing body of a leper draining all of the blood as fast as possible with whatever dirty needles they can find nearby.
