Ok anons, I have a new topic for you. As of PM, Ash is arguably the strongest he’s ever been. He’s moved on to a clearly new and higher stage, and it seems the staff weren’t lying when they said he would be fighting enemies of a level he’s never faced before. Through the past 25 years, Ash has had a variety or arcs that have led up to his current position.
However...is this a good thing? Ash’s character has felt complete at best, and stagnant/bland at worst throughout the entirety of PM. He’s just a really competent trainer, kinda in the background and helping out Goh when needed. I think the reason for this is simple: with the position hes in, it simply doesn’t make sense for the writers to rehash his old arcs. It feels ooc. They tried this with the whole Bea depression thing, and it was a disaster. I think the writers know this too, as they haven’t tried anything like that with Ash’s character since then.
The question I pose to you all is: are you satisfied with Ash being stagnant this series if the end result, Ash finally taking the world stage as an elite trainer, is worth it? Or do you feel bored, and want the writers to explore and try new things with Ash’s character? Discuss.
