His characterization in the manga is very interesting: he clearly has some dad complex, and does everything his father orders him to do, including sacrificing his life. In the ORAS arc, though, we see him slowly taking initiative and calling the shots, with his dad recognizing he's not the "unreliable son" he thought he was. He's also very interesting in delta episode. Would have never been into him if it was for RSE alone.
