They kill threads. Just ask any general on /vg/. Also, there are pretty much people who are fresh out of highschool on here, which basically makes both issues even worse.
The only solution is to remain absolutely neutral and ignore instigation, since that's a common tactic for teens and manchildren, and to ignore any and all instances of off-topic discussion as well as exclusion tactics, which they often like to perform, ie,. calling someone weird or treating them like they're out of line despite the opposite being very true. Remember that they can be very defensive and are quick to play at any angle to defend their case. And assuming you're actually coming here for something other than a reason to feel like you're sitting in the back of a 10th grade school bus, don't forget that Rule #3 exists. It can help. Watch the replies that this'll get very closely and compare it to what I've said.
