>>51751505Oh, I don't deny that it's a machine from Gen 2 onwards, or that later remakes retconned the Pokedex in Gen 1 into being one as well. All I'm saying is that, in the original games, the original intent was that the player and your rival were the ones writing the entries, which explains a lot of the weirdness in them as being exaggerations made up by literal children. The later retcons didn't take the nature of the entries into account, which is part of what started the confusion over how much of the Pokedex should be taken at face-value - Red and Green's speculation and embellishments now get passed off as scientific fact because the entries were more or less copy/pasted from the original despite the nature of the Pokedex now being changed to a machine that basically writes itself instead of a blank notebook.
On a semi-related note, the original manual that came with the R/B/G games was stylized to look like the in-game Pokedex - a literal leather-bound journal.
