>>50706697>Paul developmentWhat Paul development? It didn't give Paul development it showed Paul has developed a tiny bit since we last saw him, which is the bare minimum you can expect. He himself didn't grow or change over the course of the episode over all.
>Gengar developmentLearning a new move isn't development. There was no emotion or meaning behind it at all. It happened in a short scene where Ash wasn't even there to motivate him, it just *happened*.
>Ash's old pokemon were all shownAgain, literal bare minimum fan service (though granted, journeys has messed this up before). But there was nothing to it, no emotion beyond cheap nostalgia. The episode had a focus on infernape, but to no end beyond just replaying some powerful scenes from DP. I'm sorry, but rerunning an actually good show isn't a substitute for being good yourself. Why didn't they do ANYTHING with that.
>the battle was pretty goodThe battle wasn't the worst, but it was still utterly mediocre compared to what pokemon can do. Literal side profile beam clash where they move gyarados.png back and forth
>>50706704That's shit and you know it is. Paul isn't going to appear again, so having a secret reason is an entirely pointless and a confusing writing choice at that. The real reason he said that is because the writers didn't plan ahead with regards to Paul in the show and they needed *some* line to justify him not being there, so they threw out that half baked attempt at a joke.
