>>44811923As someone who loves this gen to heart I have to say there are still plenty of things I would love to see fixed.
Bianca and Cheren were going through their own (implied) well written character arcs with some good potential, only to get completely dropped and abandoned the moment the plot abruptly turns its main focus from your personal adventure towards the Plasma storyline in the events of the Dragonspiral Tower.
Meanwhile, this was the first game where the protagonist follows a true "chosen one" arc, and they could've done some interesting stuff with it, specially with the heavy implications that our prota wasn't chosen by the legendary dragon itself but because the first chosen (N) needed a counterpart and he knowingly accepted you as his equal. The problem here is that N's fixation with the main character has no explanation due to a character presentation with zero build up and the fact that Plasma are just side-note villains all the way before the plot takes its shift at the events in the Dragonspiral Tower. At which point you're on your 7th badge and the game tries its best to give the player a rushed explanation of the plot.
Lots of wasted potential, needed a better build up and a more carefully way to write the two main arcs coexisting side to side (rivals and N) rather than entirely dropping one to focus in the other.
BW2 had similar pacing problems with most of the bulk of its plot being rushed towards the end between the 2 final badges, it feels like Gamefreak struggled to find space for their plot while keeping the gameplay pace they were used to design all their games around.
Lastly, I loved the idea of implementing seasons, but it pains me that snow was relegated to the western stretch around Icirrus City, having only 1 town and 3 areas getting covered in white for winter. I wanted to see more snow.
