>>34660871The reason why this ties in so well with Gen 5 is because they built a Pokedex that can strive on its own. They had a region filled with different settings and filled it with Pokémon. They had so many core settings to cover, such as field Pokémon, ocean Pokémon and ones that live in the city. However, this may also be why Gen 5 is considered a copy of Gen 1.
Gen 1 was a living, breathing dex that stood on its own. My dream is to top that, but I don't think I ever will without being called a "copy".
Gen 1 had an answer to every question. The heaviest Pokemon, the dumbest Pokemon, the smartest, the lightest, the coolest, the cutest, strongest, the weakest. Those stupid handbooks you had a kid can be one of the most important books when designing Fakemon, because you cannot forget the roots of Pokémon.
This should be an integral part of the process for any Fakemon artist who is designing an entire Pokedex. Who is the weakest Pokemon in your dex? The strongest? The smartest? The dumbest? It can be more than one, just imagine what you did as a kid. Kids argued about their answers, they had their beliefs and their favourites. Remember that, and prod it with your designs. Have your answers and exaggerate the idea. Think of the biggest one in your dex, how can you make it bigger? The most beautiful- how does its beauty affect the world it lives in? Or the most ugly? Or the fastest? Slowest?
Designing a Fakemon should be beyond its internal features, external designs should be considered as well. Religions, cults, fandoms, technology will all be built in response to these Fakemon. That's one reason why I think Sage is so well done.
I'm going to cover two more points, personality and utility, otherwise I'll rant forever.
