You can hate on it and shout out >rules but to me those rules are a means to an end (which I followed anyway, fuck you). They're a means to create greater interest and bonds (yes Karenfag reporting) with your Pokemon, and to get you to train Pokes you never would have otherwise.
Which is exactly what I did. Yes, I used Starmie over a Chandelure because it was something I'd never done before. To me, it's you who is completely missing the point.
You talk about challenge, but you really only want a certain kind of challenge. You hate grinding, but you'd be fine taking an OU poke over a NU one if it balanced the team better and made the run easier for you. What's good challenge, what's bad challenge? Should I ban Lucky Eggs, or should I ban Gen V since there's too much XP?
I enjoyed it, I followed the rules I started with (and most people play with), it was rewarding, it created memories and bros with Pokes I'd never have used. Haters gonna' hate.
