Call me boring, but I cannot stand how Pokemon battles are animated between Season 2 up until DP. First season had highlight moments like pikachu vs surge and it was a novelty to simply see at the time.
After like 40 decades later, they were still animated the exact same except more formulaic and with souless art. Wow use tackle, swooshy backgrounds, horizontal panning impact shot of a still of the actual hit for 3 seconds, wow cut to the pokemon flying away backward. XY and SM are guilty of this too but they are the first to show glimpses of what could be with having highlight moments that show true pokemon battles. Undeniable moments of good animation and steady pacing. Anything with dawn or may is something ive visually seen not dozens but hundreds of times. XY switched it up and early on you felt its excitement because it felt it was directed at least somewhat differently.
Anyway as a result I cant even sit through the whole dp league. Its boring as fuck, and it doesnt even top the charizard vs blaziken which already looked stale at the time of its release
