Flea Markets all had cards super cheap and then of course your more expensive holos and stuff but an average kid could go with a handful of quarters and get some cool cards for their collection.
Pokemania was everywhere and there was so much merchandise and cross promo stuff like the Mac and Cheese, the Pop Tarts etc. There was tons of Pokemon fansites and fan magazines too that were just run by random people. Its a shame on Serebii really survived from that era.
I remember that there was such a distraction with Pokemon that playgrounds and schools were banning kids from bringing the cards or games there but kids still did anyways.
