Iris is actually the same age, if not younger, so she came off as an annoying brat.
Character design does matter when it comes to personality development, and vice versa. You can't just find a character people don't like, and put an attractive template over them.
I like Iris in the games. If she was as adorable, and level headed in the anime, she might have been my favourite character.
