While Ash was definitely a good trainer here, he lost his charisma from AG. He was pretty flat.
Same with Brock. He barely had any screentime in DP, and him becoming a Pokemon Doctor was weird, especially since he was dead set on becoming a Pokemon Breeder.
Not to mention, the arc dragged on for a bit too long with all of the filler. Ash and Co should have visited Stark Mountain, or a Johto Battle Frontier to even things out.
AG had about as many episodes as DP, yet still managed to have an arc set in Kanto.
That's my two cents. AG > DP anyhow.
XY being the way it is currently might even dethrone AG as my favorite too.
