Hi, OP. Don't give up - after all, your efforts would have been in vain if you stop.
Here are some tips:
Watch/listen to stuff while you hatch. Netflix, anime, Youtube, Let's Plays, podcasts... There's all kinds of stuff to entertain you as you ride your bike back and forth.
Hatch until you fall asleep at night.
To increase egg productivity, I highly recommend breeding your charmander with a foreign charmander of the opposite sex, instead of a ditto. It's worth the extra time to find one via GTS, and I wish I did this long ago. You'll hatch at a much faster rate since your egg inventory will always be full.
Do everything in the game that you want to accomplish BEFORE hatching like completing the Pokedex, beating Battle Maison, EVing Pokemon etc.
Just don't sit and expect a shiny charmander to hatch. It's most likely going to be normal, and that's okay. It's going to happen for a random amount of time.
But I promise it's worth it when you hatch one, look down and see that it's different. That HOLY SHITBALLS moment of wonder is an amazing feeling.
