Even with the exp share off and having a Lv.50 party by the time I made it to the Pokemon League, I still stomped on everything in there with the exception of Diantha's Mega Gardevoir and Siebold's Gyrados. As for Wulfric, he literally says the player might destroy him:

This isn't an uncommon take either, plenty of people have said X&Y were to easy and no amount of seething over Johto, Unova, or whatever region Yawnfag deflects to, is going to change people's minds.
