I have nuzlocked every new game blind since gen 3. Naturally, I also went back and played the gens I didn't nuzlocke and did those too.
I now do the same blind nuzlocke thing with rom hack pokemon games too, so needless to say, I'm pretty experienced when it comes to nuzlocking games.
X&Y are, by far, the hardest games in the main series to nuzlocke. It's not even close.
What makes this especially hilarious is that X&Y are well known for being some of the easier games in terms of regular play.
So why are X&Y more difficult to nuzlocke?
Well, for starters the huge variety of pokemon available on each route can actually screw you over pretty damn hard.
I've legitimately had a run in which my starter was Fennekin and everything else I caught pre Grant was all normal and flying types, making Tyrunt a pain in the ass. That same run had EVERYTHING that I had caught up to that point be weak to either fighting or flying, which caused a wipe to Hawlucha (First failure I've had in a nuzlocke in a long long time).
Basically though, the point is that the sheer variety of pokemon you can catch can leave you with an imbalanced team which is very rare to happen in most of the other mainline games due to how pokemon are distributed.
Next, and most important, is the sheer amount of dangerous encounters that can easily catch you off guard. These encounters are so significant that I always remember them now. Something I can't say for many of the encounters in other games.
>Double Furfrou
>Machoke & Mr Mime
>Gardevoir & Alakazam
>Double Lucario
>Early Ace trainer with a moderately high level Kadabra
>Doublade trainer in frozen cavern
>Any Sawk / Hawlucha trainer
>Wobbuffet cave
>Any arena trap pokemon in general actually (This is more significant in this game considering just about every pokemon that has arena trap can be found at some point)
>Fucking Lysandre
>Siebold's DD'ing Gyarados
Those are the main offenders, but there's some other shit that can trip you up too.
