You could be right about my Firefox configuration, too.
Webms are usually meant for video and not still images though, my image viewer won't open them. I have to use a media player to view them, which doesn't work well with still images.
I wonder why webp images never took off. It was made the same time as webm and is based on the same thing, but have you ever heard about webp before? They can be lossy or lossless, and even then the lossless version is ~45% smaller than a png.
