they use waifus because it works and because they can get away with it. waifus push sales, it's a simple fact of life. just look at fire emblem. you can't look at games before awakening and then look at awakening and tell me they didn't have a larger emphasis on waifuism, and they profited big off of it. pokemon never really had a 'might fail' period after the first year or so, but the waifus help keep the momentum going. it's obvious that they're doing it too, just look at the anime. more accurately, look at the difference between the game and the anime. the games are in the same demographic as the anime yet the games have sexualized waifus all over the place and the anime is forced to tone them down to make them acceptable for a children's audience (see olivia). i don't really think waifu pandering is that bad so long as they try to make the games themselves better in the future
