>>47448495I'll bite. It's not that cutscenes by themselves are inherently bad, but that the cutscenes in the Gen 7 games are bad. They don't add anything meaningful to the game nor can they be skipped, turned off, or blown through. What exactly does "NEBBY, GET IN THE BAG!" and "DUDE MALASADAS LMAO!" for the millionth time add to the game? Nothing.
There are dozens of games with good cutscenes that actually add to the game instead of take away from it or waste the player's time. Some games keep them short and sweet while other games structure themselves around that narrative. Some games have the characters talk while you progress, so the player isn't stopped by cutscenes.
Stop defending the cutscenes in Gen 7 because "All JRPGs have cutscenes!", because that's disingenuous to other JRPGs with cutscenes that, you know, are actually good.
