>>39815541>TPC and Game Freak view their series like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest where every game is “equally good” and people will want to revisit each generation independently. They do not want the latest games in the series to be considered the only ones worth playing.BULL
FUCKING
SHIT!
Dragon Quest is the best example of a franchise that's spent decades tinkering with it's systems. Never changing the basics or trying to revolitionize itself, but each game does something the last didn't and every feature that's met with approval by the fans gets upgraded in future games. Iterative improvements are the name of the game, even if it makes past games become mechanically irrelevant. One doesn't need to look deep into DQ history to realize this.
This is very much not the method Gamefreak, or the Pokemon franchise in general, have gone for. The games are stagnant, the card game is stagnant, the anime is stagnant, the movies are stagnant. Any improvement is quickly abandoned for development efficiency.
It made me genuinely angry to read that comparison.
