Decided to grind my team to level 36, so my Pidgeotto could finally evolve, and take on the Blackthorn Gym. Ted and Buzz leveled up along the way to level 37.
Gyarados went down after a single Thunderbolt. Wasn't really worried about it to be honest. Then she sent one of her Dragonair, while I switched to Bill and took her off with two Ice Beams.
And that's where the things get interesting. She sends Kingdra, I send Ted. I try to use Ice Fang to get a hit in, but Kingdra is obviously faster and uses Dragon Pulse, which hits me for a good 50-55 HP. I go next, use Ice Fang, and the unthinkable happens, it gets frozen! But the attack didn't hit very hard, so I think about what I should do next, and decide to use Crunch so I can hope to lower its defenses. Which works, with 2 hits out of the 4 lowering it. Clair uses a Hyper Potion which restores the totality of Kingdra's HP, and in the next turn, after falling to a bit less than 2 thirds of its HPs, unfreezes and uses Hyper Beam. Scared me, but thankfully, it wasn't that effective. And that permitted me to end that monster with one more Crunch when it had to recharge.
And finally, the last Dragonair didn't pose a threat and went down after two Ice Fangs.
So, after going to the Dragon's Den, I'm the proud owner of the 8 Johto badges, and I'm eager to take on the Elite 4.
