Some last minute autism before the thread archives to Pokemon Day tomorrow. The lore vid uses an interesting choice of words to explain why Pecharunt mochi'd his parents in the first place - that is, to "secure" their love - and it's probably deliberate. It implies that Pecharunt is indeed aware that he's loved but is afraid of losing it. The root of the issue, including his own greed for affection, is insecurity. He needs more and more of it because he feels like it's never enough. Which is why he keeps working tirelessly to grant every request from the old couple after they consume the mochi. The chains are the same thing, he gives the Loyal Three what they want, and in exchange they follow him unconditionally, no take backsies, no ifs or buts. Literal death doesn't even put a dent in them, and the only thing we've seen that negates their influence is another mind control device (ie a Pokeball). And the reason he picks Fezandipiti as the last retainer is because he still felt unsafe. Then of course the vid makes the point to show how despite everything, he still loses all.
Everything he does is a permanently binding contract because he cannot fathom to lose what he has (which then he does anyways).
